The Pale Red Dot

For reasons of access and security, we used a drone to scout out areas of deforestation. From above, this rape of the land reduces the rainforest to something akin to the surface of the moon. These abstract canvases have a kind of beauty hidden in the horror, red brush strokes of mud criss-crossed with the ecru tyre tracks of farm vehicles, the land strewn with the pen strokes of burned tree trunks, littering the scorched earth.

A lone tree stands remnant, but that is all that remains of what was once the most fecund ecosystem on this pale blue dot.
